I believe chambers of commerce are at their best when they help businesses connect, communicate, participate, and become more involved in the communities they serve.
My involvement with the Pinellas Park/Gateway Chamber of Commerce has given me the opportunity to work with business owners, community leaders, staff, volunteers, and fellow board members in a part of Pinellas County with a long history of entrepreneurship, industry, small business, and civic involvement.
I currently serve as Secretary and as a member of the Board of Directors, with a particular focus on governance and marketing. Those responsibilities may sound administrative, but both have a direct effect on whether an organization earns trust, communicates clearly, and provides value to its members.
The Pinellas Park/Gateway Chamber of Commerce traces its history to 1915 and has served generations of businesses in and around Pinellas Park. The Chamber’s current mission is straightforward: bring businesses together to strengthen the community.
Its membership includes large employers, small businesses, professional service providers, retailers, healthcare organizations, manufacturers, nonprofits, and independent entrepreneurs. That diversity is one of the strengths of a local chamber. People with very different businesses often face many of the same challenges: visibility, relationships, workforce, communication, growth, and finding reliable resources.
A chamber can help create the environment where those connections happen.
My goal is not to make the Chamber look more active online than it really is. The goal is to help the organization become more effective and then communicate that value accurately.
I hope my contribution in governance, marketing, technology, communication, and relationship-building helps strengthen the Chamber for the businesses that depend on it.
If members feel informed, included, connected, and able to see a return on the time they invest in the Chamber, then the organization is moving in the right direction.
Governance is one of those subjects that most people never think about when an organization is running well.
But clear bylaws, defined responsibilities, accurate minutes, proper financial controls, transparent decision-making, and an engaged Board of Directors are part of what allows a chamber to operate responsibly and maintain the confidence of its members and community partners.
My governance work is focused on making sure the organization has clear processes, understands its responsibilities, preserves institutional knowledge, and can make decisions in a way that is consistent with its governing documents and mission.
Good governance is not about making an organization more bureaucratic. It is about creating enough structure that good people can work together effectively.
Marketing a chamber of commerce is different from marketing a normal business.
A chamber is not simply selling a product. It is communicating the value of relationships, events, education, advocacy, referrals, community involvement, and access to resources.
My background in digital marketing and technology through Powered By Belltech gives me a useful perspective in that work. Websites, email, social media, online directories, search visibility, event promotion, photography, video, and member communications should all help answer the same question for a business owner:
Why should I participate in this Chamber?
The answer has to be visible in what the Chamber actually does, not just in what it says.
Over the years, Belltech has had the opportunity to work with businesses and organizations throughout Florida and beyond.
Our work has included relationships with brands and organizations such as:
Some relationships have lasted for many years.
That matters to me more than simply counting projects.
Powered By Belltech has grown into a full-service digital marketing and technology company providing services that include:
The tools continue changing. Our responsibility is to understand those changes and help our customers use them effectively.
Membership organizations become stronger when members participate.
That means giving members multiple ways to become involved: networking, educational programs, committees, business referrals, community events, ribbon cuttings, volunteer opportunities, and leadership roles.
The Pinellas Park/Gateway Chamber continues to offer a mix of networking groups, orientations, business events, and community programs designed to bring members together and create useful connections.
My goal is to help make those opportunities easier to understand, easier to promote, and more valuable to the businesses participating in them.
Every long-standing organization eventually goes through periods of transition.
Those are the moments when governance, communication, and leadership matter most. Members need accurate information. Boards need clear records. Staff and volunteers need to understand responsibilities. Community partners need confidence that the organization remains focused on its mission.
I believe leadership during transition should be factual, organized, respectful, and grounded in the organization’s governing documents. That approach helps protect continuity while allowing an organization to evolve.
One of the reasons I enjoy Chamber involvement is that the work often extends beyond traditional business networking.
Community projects give business leaders a chance to serve alongside one another and build relationships while doing something worthwhile.
A good example is the Chamber’s annual backpack effort supporting local students. In August 2026, I had the opportunity to volunteer throughout the day as the Chamber helped prepare and distribute hundreds of backpacks for students. Experiences like that show what a business organization can accomplish when members, staff, volunteers, businesses, and community partners work together.
My involvement in Pinellas Park also reflects something I believe strongly about local business leadership: communities do not operate in isolation.
Businesses in Pinellas Park work with customers, vendors, employees, organizations, and partners throughout Largo, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, the Gulf Beaches, and the rest of Pinellas County.
The relationships I have developed through the Pinellas Park/Gateway Chamber complement my involvement with other business and community organizations across the county. Each organization has its own mission and geography, but there is tremendous value in helping good people and good organizations find ways to work together.
