Of all the titles I have carried in business, community organizations, music, and leadership, the one that matters most to me is Dad.
Being Zoë’s father has shaped the way I look at time, responsibility, work, faith, education, community, and the example we leave behind.
I have always believed that some of the best education happens through experience. That is why I try to include her in the real world around us – business, travel, community events, volunteering, music, voting, golf, local businesses, beaches, parks, and the many people we meet along the way.
For me, fatherhood is not a separate part of life that sits outside everything else. It influences almost everything I do.
One of the things I have tried to do as a father is give Zoë experiences instead of only explanations.
If I am going somewhere meaningful and it is appropriate for her to be there, I would rather have her see it, hear it, ask questions, meet people, and form her own understanding than simply hear me describe it later.
That has meant everything from local business events and community service projects to concerts, school activities, golf courses, restaurants, beaches, travel, civic events, and election-day traditions.
Those experiences are memories, but they are also education.
Real Larry Bell is not meant to be only a list of companies, titles, and organizations.
Those things are part of my life, but they are not the whole story.
I share some family experiences because being a father explains a great deal about what motivates me, why I care about the community, why youth programs matter to me, why I value traditions, and why I try to make the most of the time we are given.
There are also parts of family life that should remain private, and they will. The goal is not to turn family into content. The goal is to honestly represent the person behind the professional roles.
Years from now, I doubt Zoë will remember every meeting I attended, every website we built, every title I held, or every project that seemed urgent at the time.
I hope she remembers that we did things together.
That we laughed. That we traveled. That I showed up. That we served people. That faith mattered. That work could be fun. That our community was full of people worth knowing. And that being her dad was never something I considered secondary to everything else.
A lot of family life is not built around huge moments. It is built around repeatedly showing up.
Breakfast before school. Driving to practice. Sitting through a match. Helping at an event. Going to church. Voting together. Taking the long way home because there is something interesting to see. Saying yes to an adventure when it would be easier to stay home.
Those ordinary moments have become some of the memories I value most.
I do not expect every day to be extraordinary. I do want Zoë to know that her father was present for it.
School matters, and I value formal education. I also believe young people learn a tremendous amount by being included in the world around them.
Meeting business owners teaches something about entrepreneurship. Volunteering teaches something about service. Watching a board meeting teaches something about leadership. Golf teaches patience and discipline. Travel teaches perspective. Music teaches creativity and teamwork.
Even going with me to vote has become a family tradition and an opportunity to talk about citizenship and responsibility.
I want her to grow up understanding that learning does not stop when the school day ends.

Faith is an important part of our family life.
Indian Rocks Church has become a meaningful part of our weekly routine and our community. Serving, greeting, worshiping, and being around other families gives us another place to learn what it means to show up for others.
My faith also affects the way I think about being a father. I know my daughter is watching what I do much more closely than she is listening to what I say.
That is a responsibility I take seriously, even knowing I will never do it perfectly.
I have never wanted Zoë to believe that work and life have to exist in completely separate worlds.
She has been around my businesses, community organizations, events, music, and projects for years. She has seen the fun parts, the long days, the problem solving, the meetings, the friendships, and the responsibilities that come with building things.
I want her to understand that work can be meaningful, that relationships matter, and that you can take your responsibilities seriously without losing the ability to enjoy the journey.
That idea is a big part of Real Larry Bell.
Some of our best memories come from simply going somewhere together.
That may mean a local beach day, a concert, a restaurant, fishing, boating, a theme park, a road trip, a business visit, or discovering somewhere new.
Music is another important part of that. It has always been part of my life, and sharing concerts, performances, and the Surfin’ Raccoons world with my daughter gives us another connection that goes beyond work and school.
I believe families need stories they can tell later. I am trying to make sure we have plenty of them.
Golf has become another place where family, education, and character come together.
Being involved around school golf gives me the opportunity to support Zoë and other student-athletes while reinforcing lessons that extend well beyond a scorecard – patience, preparation, honesty, sportsmanship, resilience, and learning how to handle both good days and bad days.
Those are useful lessons in golf. They are even more useful in life.
